Amazing Shops:
We Are 1976 - coolest, hippest shop in all of DFW
Dolly Python - best vintage, antiques, & oddities shop in all of DFW
Local Sites & Blogs (Urban/City Planning/Culture):
Walkable DFW - an Urban Designer's take on Dallas city planning, focusing on downtown and the urban core, and its (often lack of) walkability/bikeability.
Fort Worthology - blog focusing on Fort Worth's budding, progressive movement of pedestrian-friendly and mixed-use developments, ever-expanding biking culture (including tons and tons of bike lanes!), and general city plannning/urban stuff.
Dallas Observer - to state the obvious: the Observer has been covering the local scene (restaurants, arts & culture, local government) way longer than I've been paying attention... they lean toward the progressive and are not afraid to call out obnoxious city-planning or profile controversial stories.
Central Track - one of the hippest local websites that focuses on music, art, fashion, and general hipster stuffs. I'm glad these guys and gals are around to promote the local scene.
Arts & Entertainment:
Undermain Theatre - a fantastic little theater company in Deep Ellum with high (high!) quality productions that often verge on the experimental or edgy. A personal favorite.
Kitchen Dog Theater - another great independent theater company housed in the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (MAC) with unique, creative productions.
Spune - local booking company that brings some great indie/hipster artists to the metroplex
The Texas Theatre - rennovated historic theater in Oak Cliff now showing many art-house/independent films, classics, and a few modern blockbusters.
Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas - website outlining some of the best small, contemporary galleries in Dallas, featuring many in the Design District and some in East Dallas/Deep Ellum... these are great alternatives to the big museums.
Biking Blogs/Sites & Outdoorsy Stuff:
Santa Fe Trail - a still-developing trail in my favorite 'hood: East Dallas... runs from White Rock Lake all the way to Deep Ellum.
Bike Friendly Oak Cliff - the prolific bike promoters of Oak Cliff have gotten more done than just about any bike friendly team in the metroplex. They have brought most of the city's buffered bike lanes to their neighborhood, and, oh yeah...a multimillion dollar grant to bring a streetcar system back to Oak Cliff (connecting it to downtown).
